From March 31, 2017, the fourth amendment to the German Law on the charging of fees for the use of federal roads is in force. It opens the way to extending the obligation to pay road tolls for all federal roads from 1 July 2018. The purpose of the new act is to provide a source of financing for the modernization of the federal road network and the construction of a modern, safe and functional road infrastructure in Germany. This is to be achieved through the systematic implementation of a financing system based on fees paid by road users.
